The Name of God

The name of God, our Heavenly Father is not “the LORD”. Read the following statements to understand a little more about His name.

The LORD – Yahweh (יהוה) is His name and it does not mean the LORD. The actual meaning of the name is unknown, but is very sacred and should not be replaced

God – Elohim (Mighty One)

Jesus – Yahushua (יהושע)(Yahweh is my salvation)

Law – Torah (Yahweh’s written or spoken commandments/instructions)

Lawlessness – “Torahlessness” (Not observing Yahweh’s written or spoken commandments/instructions)

Sin – Defined in the Scriptures as doing something against the Torah

Consider the following:

Moreover Elohim said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘Yahweh the Elohim of your fathers, the Elohim of Abraham, the Elohim of Isaac, and the Elohim of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.’

Exodus 3:15

Out of respect to our Heavenly Father, we feel it is important to call Him by His holy name. His name, Yahweh, has been removed from almost every Bible translation since the early 16th century. Instead of saying His name, writers substituted it with “the LORD”. Every time you see “the LORD” in your modern Bible, that is where His name, Yahweh, originally was. Totaling over 7,000 times in nearly 6,000 versus.

We were commanded by Yahushua to baptize in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Matthew 28:19-20

In this short passage we can read that there is importance and power in the name of our creator and His Son. Their true names are Yahweh and Yahushua and we believe we should respect their names and call them by their name.

As a follower of Yahushua, we believe that we are to live a Set-Apart or righteous life. Not according to the world’s standards of living, but according to our Heavenly Father’s standards. What standard did our Heavenly Father give us? In the Old Testament, through Moses and the prophets, Yahweh outlined clearly what He declares as righteous and just. His son Yahushua lived out this righteous life as an example to us and when we fall short and sin against our Heavenly Father, Yahushua paid the ransom for our souls and died upon a tree so we can be redeemed. Yahushua made it very clear that He did not come to destroy the law, or Torah, but came to fulfill it, or live as an example of it, to fully obey the Torah:

“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Whoever therefor breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven.”

Matthew 5:17-19

I am not sure about you, but my family and I do not want to be called “the least in the kingdom of heaven”. Revelation makes it clear who Yahushua is coming back for:

“Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of Elohim and the faith of Yahushua.”

Revelation 14:12

Notice the word “and” in that verse? Yahushua is coming back for the ones that honored His father’s commandments AND have faith in Him. When you live in Yahushua, when you die to yourself, you are to walk in the righteous path or instructions of Yahweh. We are no longer gentiles, we are heirs to the promise that Yahweh gave through Abraham:

“And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

Galatians 3:29

As I want my children to obey my commands, I also, want to obey my Heavenly Father’s commands and serve Him:

“But as for me and my house, we will serve Yahweh.”

Joshua 24:15
